A weird event...

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me with something. I was playing FoMT: FG today and the weirdest thing happened.
I'm in winter of my 2nd year and it's the 3rd day. When I went outside, the Mayor was standing there and he started talking to me with this sad look on his face. The most I could make out of the conversation was that there was this girl name Miki and something happened to her. He then asked me a question and if I picked the first one he got happy and told me to go somewhere at 7 PM.
I tried going places at 7 but nothing ever happened. Also, when I restarted and did the conversation again, he would say different things. Sometimes he would say something about an AEPFE (or whatever) apple and sometimes he wouldn't.
I'm really confused!

That's probably when he requests you to get an item. He'll return at 7 PM to pick it up, and if you give him the correct item you'll get Golden Lumber.
