I know I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.
I do not like Karma.
No, it's NOT just because I don't have very much of it. I don't post much because there's not much to say.
I believe that Karma, from what I've seen, has caused more hurt feelings than anything else.
I was part of another board where Karma became more of the center than the actual posting. People started complaining that someone had 10,000+ karma while they only had 5,000 or so. In this forum, you had 10 Karma to give at any time of day, and there were well over 10,000 members.
I don't think we should have karma anymore. It's more like something of a popularity contest in an already-competitive world. Then again, I could be wrong and everyone here could love Karma whether they have 3 or 30.
I just think, to save more incidents like Aurora, karma should be discontinued.

I agree that we should get rid of it because it's only going to cause even more problems. It was a fun feature at first, but something negative was eventually bound to happen and it did. It doesn't really have a point, anyway, because the person who got smited doesn't even know what they did wrong.

Thanks, Judgement. I agree with you about the not having a point. No one can tell what they did wrong, and people are only willing to say what they did right, for fear of losing that anonymity. In the other forum, there was a space you could write why you were giving or taking away karma when you did so. BUt I don't think proboards has that. Thank you again, Judgement.

Maybe somebody is just a sore loser and is jealous of Aurora for some reason?<_< I have to agree with you on the popularity contest, and the fact that Karma should just go "Bye bye". I mean, really, the mod votes were all about "popularity", people only voted for someone just because they were friends or some other stupid reason.x-x The Karma thing is starting to get annoying.<_< So, yeah.

Yeah, I think that's a very good idea Kel. Karma doesn't do much for anyone.
Once I figured out what it was I just knew that it was going to be bad when HM4Girls enabled it. It was just a lot of fights and hurt feelings ready to happen.
But yeah, we need love on this board, not anger and such, so I think that we should disable karma.

Oh MAN have I been wanting to say something on this. Kel, I completely agree with you. This karma thing is just getting way out of hand. I'm not mentioning any names (mainly because I don't know of any to mention) but there seem to be some pretty immature people on this board. And the karma isn't helping at all.
Jeez, where is HM4girls when you need her, you know what I'm saying?

Hm... I'm not entirely sure I agree but you guys make awesome points. I mean, what good is a friendly website w/out any friendliness? 0_0' ok that didn't make sense but... I don't think karma's that great. It's just a "who does more on the site" kind of contest, or a "who do you know" contest. Two people will have a ton of karma and the rest will feel like outcasts. I'm starting to agree more and more on that whole "no karma" thing.

Yeah! I think that HM4GIRLS should just have exaulting. That way, people could be happy! Then, on the other hand, Kel is right. It always turns out to be a pop contest. It's just not right. OR: (sorry we just have a lot of ideas) a moderator could make a new section of the board just for writing down why they think someone did right or wrong. That way people could sit and think if there id really a reason that they (imaginary) want to smite this person.

Well, Meepers, while it would be nice to know why you've been exalted or been hit with the smiting stick, it would still mean that people could give props to those they know or like, and dig on those they don't. I think it would just be a good idea to do away with the karma. Period.
I have six Karma, and I don't know why in the heck I -have- six karma. I haven't done anything note-worthy to EARN six karma. Karma would mean more if you knew why you were given karma or if you did something really spectacular that you needed karma. Of course, I don't think you ever really need karma. People shouldn't be typing up posts just to try to get karma. It's like saying you want to live a great life and help people just so you can get sainted after you die. It's presumptuous and arrogant.

Yeah, I've been getting karma for absolutely no reason, too. Like, one day, I'll have four karmas, and the next day, I'll have five, and I'll be like, WTF? What did I do to deserve this?
And it's impossible to have JUST exalting. I have my own Proboards website, and it's not at all possible to just delete the "smite" option. Besides, Kel's statement would still remain: that some people would still have more karma than others. I think the Karma thing is mostly based on popularity here....

I believe there is a code for removing the smite option, although if you know the URL you can still smite people. Overall it's just a number that shows how well people know you, not whether you've done anything right or wrong.

There is. It's completely possible to do away with karma but it's entirely up to the admin. I kind of like karma... it's fun to *exalt* but on the other hand... when you're smited... it doesn't feel too good. One day I had 26 karma and now I have 25. I just stared at it for a while, knowing that someone went out of their way to smite me instead of bringing joy and exalting someone else... But... I don't know this is tricky. Everyone's saying how much they hate karma but... on the hand karma can be fun if it's used right. *shrugs*

Karma was fun at first, but now I never really care. I don't even exalt or smite, I don't even check my karma! The only time I did was when Fairy Friend and DragonJewl pointed it out, after that, it's like, "Who needs karma? What's the big deal?" If I could, I'd just give all my karma away, just because. Really, though, who needs it?

I think that really, we should just leave all karma alone. maybe the admin. could ban all exaulting/smiting and make sure nobody (noooooooooooooobody know the trouble I've seen... srry) that way we wouldn't stress ourselves trying to delete it. if someone broke this rule *begins to speak but nothing comes out*... well, I haven't figured that out yet...
