It's a lot like AWL moreso than BtN or FoMT. I prefer the last two, myself. Your stamina goes down so fast!! And if you don't pay attention to certain villagers (Carl, Eve, etc) they leave for a while and you have to ship lots of something (eggs and flour for cakes in this case) to get them back. Your land is sooooo small on the River Side. I can only imagine how small Village Center is! It's a trek (and a mass of confusion) for me to get into town and find where all the things are. On the first day, I only met Ellen, Kurt, Saibara, and Joe because I couldn't find anyone else. It's a cute game so far, and you can re-arrange your furniture. STarting off you get a Down Bed, Hay Bed, and a Woody Bed. Take your pick! And a blue, pink, or green chest you can choose from. You start off with a kitchen, cabinet, fridge, knife set, and a table. Feel free to put them where you want them! You can name your dog (Pat), your farm (Pink Sugar) and yourself (Kel). Ellen lives with Hank and they run the Blue Sky Ranch where you buy livestock. On the River Side, I have no idea where to put anything! But if you're going after Joe, pick River Side. He loves fishing and he's hanging out on your land a lot doing just that. You start out with the pedometer, fishing pole, axe, hoe, hammer blah blah. All that good stuff. I'd suggest looking for the yellow Very Berries. X( They replenish a lot of your stamina. And at least you now have a stamina meter you can see! Not to mention you have heart meters for ALL of the villagers and not just your love interests. So you can see how much each and every one of them likes you. Once you play the game, please post game play tips, tricks, and layout opinions and suggestions here! PLEASE. XD

I might buy it today! But it depends if Wal-Mart have it in yet. It sounds really interesting, especially the part about the land.

I'm just wondering, how much like AWL is it? I didn't like the game very much, so would it be worth it to buy it?

I hated AWL. Very much.
In general, it's just the layout. The camera angle isn't quite as hideous as it was in AWL. It's more a cross between BtN/FoMT and AWL. It's not quite at the angle of FoMT/BtN (which I liked) but you're not basically behind the character either.
The colors aren't as bright, and if you've ever played Windwaker from Zelda, the animation's a bit like that.
All in all, I'd still buy it, but it's not going to be one of my favorites so far. Maybe it'll get better once I'm used to the style of game play. I do like how you can choose your furniture, though. :3
You can grow breadfruit, though it's not all year long. In summer, you can grow cocoa.
Also, if you don't have an ingredient for cooking, you can buy it at the supermarket! Isn't that awesome?! No more waiting until the next season!

After playing it for a while, I've found MM to be one of my favorites! The controls take a little getting used to, and so do the character designs. The map of the town in the options menu is really spread out, but you get used to it. The option to buy other land is really neat. I haven't bought any (bought the bigger rucksack) and I'm confined to using public property to grow a few crops. The Riverside property is the one I picked for my main game, and it's pretty good. Fishing is great! You get a lot of different fish to catch and you can make sashimi out of them straight off. You start with a kitchen, fridge, and a knife set. Selling the sashimi is more profitable than selling the fish by themselves. But you can't make sashimi out of the Dace. You can get the other cooking stuff from the junk shop that Michael and Ann run. There's so much to do! And all the herbs and Very Berries up on the mountain change their growing spots each day, so you never know where they'll be. I found a Very Berry in my own backyard where there wasn't one the day before. The more I play this game, the more fun it becomes. I've almost got Carl and Eve to move into town, and the Sanatorium should be coming soon. Gina and Dia are in there.

That'll be much better than just going to the same spot everyday for the same old thing.
It sounds like there's so much to do! I can't wait, I've had the money put aside since Christmas.

^^; I think that every new HM game with a new town and stuff is waaaay confusing. When I first got AWL and STH I thought I'd NEVER get where everything was. Now I know those towns like I do my own house.
I think I may ask my mom to take me up to Walmart or GameStop today so I can buy MM. I just got allowance yesterday, plus my birthday is coming up so I guess I'll stop being stingy and pay for it. XD;

Just a question, but how long do the days last? Are they super fast like HM64 with 30 days per month or are they so painfully slow to the point where you only have 10 days, like in AWL?

The days are more like BtN and FoMT. There's 30 days in a season and go fairly quickly, rather close to how fast the time in BtN and FoMT went. But the more I play this game, the more I like it. I bought the River Side to start out with. The soil is GREAT right next to the river, so plant breadfruit. Even just one plot'll do it. That gives you eight breadfruits if you leave the middle open so you can reach them all with your dinky little watering can. :/ Plant the breadfruits right next to the river where the soil is the darkest. The crops' selling prices are based on how good they are. The quality of soil is a MUST, so look and see how dark it is! The breadfruits take 7 days initially to grow, then you harvest them every 2 days after that. The seeds cost 60g a bag, and if you plant them in the darkest soil, they sell for 300g a piece! That's how I made a lot of money and was able to buy Ocean Side property, move my house, build a henhouse, and upgrade my house to level 2. Another good way to revive stamina is to fish for blowfish in the ocean and cook them over your bonfire. The bonfire can only be used on the sand! When you eat the broiled blowfish, you heal your stamina all the way. But, be warned! If you work and eat and work and eat too much you will get sick and pass out and lose the rest of your day. I found that out the hard way... After building a chicken coop, buy an egg at the Blue Sky Ranch and hatch it yourself. It costs about 120g, while the chicken is closer to 2000g. Dan and Ronald moved into town, too, and opened an orchard. :3 Dan loves CLAMS. Dig for them on the shore where the water laps onto the sand with your hoe. I give him 1 a day, and I give Kurt a branch a day until my tomatoes pop up in the summer. If you want to raise Kurt's affections, plant your tomatoes in the spot where your breadfruits were. He loves top quality tomatoes. And you can raise Theodore's affections really easily. Just catch Rainbow Trout (R. Trout) in the river and give him one a day. You cannot give these people more than one gift a day! It doesn't work like Karen in BtN/FoMT. They'll tell you "this is too much" when you give them another! I found that out the hard way, too. Altogether, this game is great! I like it better than some of the others, though I do miss some of the characters. :/ I'm going for Dan, Alex, and Kurt right now. XD Alex (the doctor) is up to 2 hearts, while Dan and Kurt are up to 1 each. Good strategy for houses: STart at River Side! Then move your house to the Ocean Side once you purchase it. Make Ocean Side (where the soil is crappy) into a place for animals. Plant a bunch of grass and build your barn and chicken coop there. Don't forget to use the stones around to make a fence! I found that starting on River Side is the best. When you move your house to Ocean Side, you can keep the watering hole in River Side where your crops are going to be. Ship 10 Limestone to ulock the fertilizer. Then all your soil will be top quality!

^^; I've played obessesively since Sunday after noon, and you make some great points Kel.
Riverside is what I bought, I really liked it. But I made the mistake of planting stuff up in the unclaimed land above my house...that was dumb, I ended up losing my few crops because of Saibara and the Orchard. *stupid mistake*
>_>; Stamina is something you really DO have to watch. Even though the first time you faint gets you a note, it's just plain annoying to sit through the stupid cinema again and again. :\
: D I must say, that I am already happily married to Kurt (Fall 26th I believe was the wedding). I was completely giddy the whole day. *snorts*
I think now I'm going to start some boy games, since I want to marry: Gwen, Katie and Dia. Psh, I seem to be more interested in the bachelorettes than the guys. *shrugs* I don't play for that team, but I just love those characters. Plus...who doesn't want to marry someone that has the same name as them (Katie)! XD;
Mmm, well, thanks for the tips Kel! ^^ I'll be using them for sure!

I'm going for Kurt in one file. What's he like as a husband? That's my RL hubby's name, so I feel like I should at least try. But he doesn't get the three floating hearts above his head when I give him my top-quality tomatoes. :T What'd you give him to raise him up?
I don't know how many times I've sat through the clinic cinema... I've gotten a gift from Kurt, Alex, and Dan so far. But I'm tryign to work on the other boys to get them up hearts. Not to mention some of the girls. Just not enough time in these games! XD

I give Alex high quality turnips. You can also buy those at the Seed shop. Also, if you buy a carrot and spinach and mix them in your mixer, you get veggie juice, which he also loves.
