Actually...considering there's 3 different types of written language it might be a tad bit more difficult to translate than one might think. ^^;; There's Katakana, Higarana, and Kanji. I have this webpage bookmarks thats an easy to use guide to japanese. I've only just started reading it, but I can pick out words like 'day' 'rain' and 'month' ^_^;;;
I'll post it tomorrow for everyone since it's getting late for me now =P

[glow=red,2,300]LOL, my grandmother is thinking of taking me to a Japanese learning school... although it'll take time out of my busy schedule, so I dunno... Although I already know a few words and how to pronounce 'em too! Every character is a sound, and if two of the same charries are together, you say the charrie's sound over again! Like, no in Japanese is pronounced "Ee-ee-eh" and I'd post the Japanese charries, but I doubt it'd work here... [/glow]

Alright, let's start. Lot's of easy to use guides can be foud at japanese.miningco.com/blbeginkanji.htmIt's best if you read through the tutorials because there are lots of little rules that apply to the written language. Two symbols make look alike, however one small mark, say in the upper right hand corner, can drastically change the meaning of a symbol. For example: -> Means 'Large' -> Means 'dog' As you ca see, the only thing separating the two is the mark in the top right corner. (Sorry for the lack of quality, had to do this on ms paint) Symbols, much like english words, will also have multiple meanings to them. The symbol on the left, or 'large' also means 'big', 'many', 'in general', and 'great'. Well they're all sort of connected right? Not all symbols will have 'connected meanings' like the one above. But for now, we will just stick with learning a few basic symbols. ^_^;; If you give me a minute, I'll make more symbols for you guys to see on ms paint. In the mean time, why not check out that link I posted? I'll edit this post, or post again (if someone post after me), once I get them done and uploaded on my image server.

Speakin' of that scary kanji stuff.. I've found lots of words used in HM at www.kanjisite.com/html/start/jlpt/index.html in the level 4 and 3 sections. (click view all after selecting the level) What's cool about that site is if you see a kanji that looks like what you're searching for, you can click on the image and at the bottom of the description and it'll give examples of other kanji that look really close to it. Cause just like Angels said some kanji look way too similar! On this site, when ya click on the kanji for dog (inu) it'll also show you the kanji for big (dai/ookii). www.kanjisite.com/At the very front of the site, there's a search engine where you can look up a specific kanji too. Anyway, Angel's link totally rocks. I love the hirgana and katakana lessons!
